The European Federation of Medical Informatics (EFMI) welcomes you to the 30th Medical Informatics Europe conference (MIE) at the Geneva International Conference Center (CICG). This conference is organized in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the State of Geneva (Geneva), the University of Geneva (UNIGE) and the University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG).
Medical Informatics Europe was already organized in Geneva in 2005. In the last 15 years, the worlds of medicine and of information technologies have completely changed. Digitalization was seen as a nice to have in medicine, it is becoming a fundamental game changer in the era of Digital Personalized Health and Medicine. Massive amount of data from the molecular biology associated with massive data about the environment, behavior and lifestyle, exposition factors and personal records, the rise of unprecedent processing power and artificial intelligence have changed the face of medicine. The MIE2020 conference is a unique opportunity to meet experts from all involved fields, from deep learning or genomics, up to human factors, ethical and societal aspects. The MIE conferences not only attract senior researchers and top notched experts of the field, it is also, and mostly, a place where young scientists come to present their works, to meet peers, to network, to seek job and career opportunities.
Come to MIE2020 and be an actor of the change!

Personalized health at large
Personalized Health opens wide area of science, technology, business, and societal fields. A rich choice of sessions will drive you through the challenges of big data, from data acquisition to complex analytics, from knowledge discovery to treatments and risk assessment. Amongst many others, the sessions will cover:
- natural language processing to action the power of free texts using hybrid artificial intelligence techniques;
- data representation to leverage semantic interoperability;
- FHIR to move towards shared patient record for care and research;
The conference will also put the citizen at the center, and cover topics such as:
- human-machine interaction;
- interfaces and mobile health;
- human factors and impacts.
A unique opportunity to present your work
MIE 2020 is one of the few conferences allowing full peer-reviewed papers to be published in proceedings and indexed in Medline. It offers a unique opportunity to make your research available to the scientific community. All of it in a snap: Find a nice topic, prepare your 5 pages paper according to the guidelines, submit. After peer-reviewing by top-ranked field experts, if accepted, you will have the opportunity to present your work to your peers, discuss it, and grow your network !
Don’t hesitate even if you are you at an early stage of your work ! There is plenty of room for posters. Posters are also peer-reviewed, and if accepted presented during poster session to compete for the best poster prices ! And it’s even easier: submit a 2 pages abstract and prepare a poster that will be displayed during the conference. There are many other ways of participation, such as Panels, Workshops, Tutorials or Podium Papers, Science Slam … you’ll find all of it on the website !
Meet the stakeholders of the health valley
The number of biotech and medical technology firms in western Switzerland has boomed to such an extent that the region has been named “Health Valley”, with a nod to Silicon Valley for tech in California. The region is home to almost 1,000 life sciences companies, from start-ups to multinationals like Baxter, Debiopharm and UCB Farchim, as well as 20 research centers and institutes of higher education. It employs 25,000 people and is considered among the three most important centers for the sector in Europe, along with Cambridge and Oxford in Britain. Attending to MIE2020 will be a unique opportunity to get into contact with this ecosystem stakeholders.
